Harbinger of Spring

Crocuses, Daffodils & Robins right? Turns out no.

The Robins were here all winter. True their numbers increase in early March, but they were here all winter. Most people just didn’t see them, I didn’t see them until I started looking, really looking for birds.

We just expect to see them in Spring.

Why aren’t looking in winter?

Why don’t we see things that are always there, unless we look for them. Why do we not see things that are right under our noses.

I was excited that the Red-Winged Blackbirds showed up a few weeks ago – a new bird. I’ve enjoyed hearing their call and watching them flit about, for a while.

Now I see a bird.

I smile.

It’s a Red-Winged Blackbird.

I lower my camera.

They are my new European Starling (although they are still here too), They are both everywhere.

And then there are the ubiquitous Robins.

It’s Spring.
